Who We Are
Bridge Kids International uses the power of African heritage culture to create communities that support the well-being of young people. We help young people develop their own solutions to community challenges and build positive relationships between African, African-American, Caribbean and other African Diaspora groups for the purposes of friendship, cooperation, and individual and community empowerment.
What We Do
BKI designs and implements Culture is the Cure, a collection of programs that support the development of young people from birth to young adulthood. The programs promote positive racial/ethnic/cultural and gender identity, empower young families, nurture creative confidence, and promote self-determination. Programs include 7 Generations African Heritage Culture Camp, Brown Girls LOL (Living Out Loud), Mizizi Homeschool Co-op, Mending the Bridge/African Heritage Culture Project, YAWAH (Young Adult Women of African Heritage, We Made It/ Sistas with Power Tools, STEAM Club and Cooking with Kin and the Kizazi Fund, a child-focused, culturally-based, community-centered generational wealth building strategy for Black families. BKI is also establishing its global headquarters, Our Place at Ben Washer Park, by transforming a deteriorating building in an underutilized pocket park in the Limerick neighborhood into a unique community gathering place centered around youth social entrepreneurship, cultural exploration, intergenerational relationships, and sustainable living.
