Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged of Louisville, KY

Who We Are

Our MISSION is to offer the neediest elderly of every race and religion a home where they will be welcomed as Christ, cared for as family and accompanied with dignity until God calls them to himself.

Our VISION is to contribute to the Culture of Life by nurturing communities where each person is valued, the solidarity of the human family and the wisdom of age are celebrated, and the compassionate love of Christ is shared with all.

Our VALUES
REVERENCE for the sacredness of human life and for the uniqueness of
each person, especially those who are poorest and/or weakest. This is
reflected in care that is holistic and person-centered.

What We Do

The sole purpose of the Little Sisters of the Poor is serving the needs of the elderly poor, like Elizabeth, in the Louisville Metropolitan area, regardless of race, national origin, religion, age or gender. Quality care is provided to 76 residents (with an average age of 84 ½ years) who are without the means, family or social support to maintain independence in the community. The Sisters strive to meet the individual, physical, social, spiritual and emotional needs of the Residents, to help them maintain a sense of dignity and self-esteem, characteristics often lacking in the elderly.

The Little Sisters not only provide a comfortable home and nutritious meals for impoverished seniors, they care for the whole person by offering: medical and nursing services, pastoral services, social services, an extensive activity program, beauty and barber shop services and physical and occupational therapies. To extend care outside of the walls of St. Joseph’s Home, the Little Sisters offer a Senior Day Center. The Senior Day Center provides a safe place for elderly poor who are ambulatory and would benefit from being in a community environment, sharing activities and meals with the Residents and volunteers in the Home. The Senior Day Center is offered at no expense to those who participate.
