Who We Are

Horseback riding helps mentally and physically challenged people achieve a quality of life that is improved, enhanced, and enriched. Based on input from doctors, therapist, teachers and parents, the student's individual goal is designed to complement ongoing therapy and education.

The benefits of horseback riding:

Physical - The three-dimensional motion of the horse provides the rider's hip and back action that simulates natural waking. Riding relaxes and strengthens muscles and improves body tone, balance joint mobility, and coordination.

Emotional - Contact with the horses and horsemanship training provides a non-competitive setting for learning.  New abilities, self-discipline, and improved concentration build self-confidence.

Social - Horseback riding nurtures a positive self-image. Riders may, for the first time in their lives, experience some independence and a sense of being part of a team.

What We Do

The Lesson

One or more volunteers and an instructor can work with a group of riders is an enclosed ring.  The rider may learn special riding skills, care of the horse or how to saddle a horse. the rider may play games on horseback, perform gymnastic movements on the back of a horse, learn dressage or jumping or go for a trail ride. A physical therapist may be consulted and offer "hands-on" assistance in positioning and recommending actives for riders.

Each rider will have individual goals to work toward.

It's just FUN to be outside with other riders and your favorite horse.
