Who We Are
Kentucky Harvest has a mission to end local hunger by connecting with food donors and engaging volunteers to rescue excess food and move it from those who have it to those in need. Hunger - or food insecurity, as it is now being called is real and is very prevalent in our community. One in 6 people struggle with hunger each day, having to make choices between eating and paying bills, or buying medicine that they need to survive. Take, for example, the woman that is in an addiction recovery program at the Healing Place with her 2 children, or the man at Wayside Christian Mission who has lost his wife and his job, but still has 3 kids to feed and needs a little help to get by until things turn around - those are the people that Kentucky Harvest helps through the organizations that support them. They get fed and they feed their children while still being able to focus on getting sober or finding a new home, a stable living environment, and a job. Kentucky Harvest makes it easy for Kentuckians to help one another, as we are the ONLY organization that transports both perishable and non-perishable food in our local Kentuckiana area.
What We Do
Kentucky Harvest moves approximately 2.5 million pounds of food each year to 80+ recipient organizations in Jefferson, Clark, Floyd, Oldham, and Shelby counties. Annually, we donate over $4 million worth of food to people in need - children and adults. We do all of this with the help of some very dedicated volunteers, as well as people in our community who are doing various types of community service. We provide over 500 hours of volunteer service hours per month. We helped area nonprofits serve over 2 million meals last year - that's over 6,200 meals per day!
