Who We Are
The Food Literacy Project was founded in 2006 out of a community desire for young people to reconnect with soil, air, water, sun, and the people who work to feed us. Since then, over 60,000 participants have empowered themselves with farming and cooking skills, becoming change agents, addressing issues of hunger and food justice in Louisville neighborhoods. FLP’s vision is seeing healthy and equitable communities where people and places thrive. To this end, we work to spark curiosity within children from a young age on the wonders of the natural world around them.
What We Do
The Food Literacy Project invites youth to transform their communities through food, farming, and the land. We do this through our after school Field-to-Fork Clubs for 3rd-5th graders; the Youth Community Agriculture Program, which employs youth ages 16-21 to tend an urban farm; and leadership and learning opportunities that center equity, health, and food justice.
