Opportunities From: Metro United Way's Volunteer Connection

Seeking Volunteers that are skilled with powertools to help us install a wooden platform connecting our back door to a garage door on a storage room.  The platform will need to be 17ft long by 5.5 ft wide.  This would allow us to access the storage space with our rolling carts.  We have a plan but need your help to execute it!   

Join us for a meaningful Day of Compassion project that supports healing, skill-building, and community connection. Our therapy garden plays an important role in our clients’ therapeutic experience, offering hands-on activities throughout the year—from spring preparation and planting to weeding and harvesting—while allowing participants to truly enjoy the fruits - and vegetables - of their labor. Tending the garden helps clients build confidence, develop life skills, and take pride in what they help grow. Volunteers are needed to help prepare the garden for the summer and for many seasons ahead. Those with basic construction skills can assist by repairing raised garden beds and creating a designated space for mulch storage. We also welcome creative volunteers to help design and create a garden sign honoring the occupational therapist whose vision and dedication made this space possible. In the true spirit of compassion, the garden’s surplus harvest is shared with local food banks to support neighbors experiencing food insecurity. By giving your time and talents, you’ll help sustain a space where healing happens, growth is nurtured, and generosity extends beyond our garden into the wider community.

We are looking to beautify the Down Syndrome of Louisville property and create a welcoming outdoor space for our community. Volunteers will join adult members of the DSL Academy to plant flowers and new trees, install butterfly bushes, and pull weeds from our garden. Together we will bring color, life, and care to our shared exterior space.

Join the Louisville Folk School (LFS) on the Muhammad Ali Center's Day of Compassion (6/3) to pick up trash in the hidden gems of our beautiful Clifton area! Starting at 9:30 am, we'll fuel up with coffee and breakfast before heading out to the Chicken Steps (off Brownsboro Rd, a short walk from LFS) . From there, we'll pick up litter all the way to Bingham Park. Thank you to Brightside for providing our cleanup supplies. We hope to see you for a rewarding outdoor morning!

We'll publicize among our supporters and congregations for a personal care drive, focusing on those items that can't be purchased with SNAP benefits (shampoo, laundry pods, dishwashing detergent, toilet paper, etc).  On June 3, donors can drive into our parking lot where volunteers will help unload, sort and store the donated items, along with sales of a hot dog lunch.

Volunteers needed to pack snack bags and food boxes for Center for Lay Ministries Food Pantry clients. 

Cedar Lake is seeking volunteers who are interested in giving back to the environment and supporting our residents in a meaningful, hands-on way.

At one of our locations, residents have expressed a desire to care for the wildlife around their home by creating birdhouses.

Volunteers will help decorate birdhouses alongside residents, then assist in placing them around the property and filling them with birdseed to welcome local birds. This is a fun, creative opportunity to connect with residents while helping enhance their outdoor environment and support local wildlife.

We are looking to making the perimeter of our property more attractive near our volunteer entrance and memorial paver area by planting arbor vitae evergreen shrubs along the fence line. We hope it will be a small contribution to healthier air in our Smoketown neighborhood.

We need a group to pull up old stone pathway, put sand and gravel and re-lay the stones. 

At Cedar Lake, we support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a variety of ways, including independent living apartments that foster independence and community. We’re currently seeking volunteers to help spruce up these homes and outdoor spaces.

Volunteers will assist with tasks such as trimming shrubs, weeding, planting flowers, and mulching. This is a great opportunity to make a visible impact while supporting our residents in maintaining a welcoming and enjoyable environment

Americana is joining the citywide Day of Compassion on June 3rd to put service into action. In the spirit of compassion that this day represents, volunteers will prepare our spaces for Welcome (U)niversity week — a three-day program that helps immigrant and refugee families navigate life in Louisville. A clean, organized, and inviting environment is the first message our families receive, and on this Day of Compassion, we want that message to be one of dignity, care, and community.

Bring joy to our families by preparing delicious snacks in our kitchen! Volunteers are invited to create healthy snacks or bake sweet treats to brighten everyone’s day. All snacks must be prepared on-site and ingredients should be brought in their original packaging.  This is a great opportunity for individuals or groups of 8 or less.

We are partnering with the historical Mt Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church to host summer camp programming this summer for 50 Louisville kids, and we'd like to make sure the outdoor space is prepped and ready for them! 

We will host a community beautification day to prepare for summer camp.

Planned activities include:

This project will create a cleaner, more inviting space for not only the kids in camp, but also the church and the surrounding community.

IWRBR will provide: gloves, trash bags, mulch, flower seeds, basic hand tools, water, and breakfast pastries 

Volunteers- if you have shovels, rakes, weed eaters, leaf blowers, etc, that you wouldn't mind sharing for the morning, please bring them! 

Help us beautify one of Wellspring's supportive housing properties that helps adults with serious mental illness maintain long term housing.  Utilizing a calming outdoor space is part of the recovery process and we need help beautifying the outdoor spaces by planting flowers, pulling weeds, mulching, raking, etc.

Join us for a morning of work in our community garden - growing food to support the wellbeing of children and families.

RISE in Parkland: A Day of Compassion is a volunteer opportunity hosted by Option to Success Inc. that invites community members to take part in a hands-on clean-up and beautification effort at the future RISE Campus in the Parkland neighborhood.

This opportunity allows volunteers to directly contribute to improving the physical environment by removing trash and debris, cleaning high-visibility areas, and helping prepare the site to become a safe and welcoming space for youth and families. Volunteers will be organized into teams and assigned specific areas to ensure an efficient and meaningful impact.

In honor of Muhammad Ali’s legacy of service, this project provides a tangible way for individuals to give back to the community while supporting the development of a campus that will offer housing, behavioral health services, and life-skills programming.

Through this opportunity, volunteers will not only improve a physical space but also play a role in advancing long-term community impact and supporting the future of youth and families in Parkland.

Help transport our youth and young adults in wheelchairs from their rooms to our gym to enjoy an orchestra performance! 

Join OneWest and our community partners for the Day of Compassion as we come together to serve families in the West End of Louisville.

Volunteers and skilled contractors will work in teams to complete minor home repairs and safety improvements for selected households. Projects may include small fixes such as door and window repairs, light maintenance, safety installations, and general home upkeep.

This initiative reflects our commitment to practical, hands-on service—meeting real needs and strengthening our community through collaboration.
