2nd Annual 5K Walk for Food Justice - Volunteer Task List

We are grateful for your interest in volunteering for the 2nd Annual 5K Walk for Food Justice! Below is a list of tasks and responsibilities that are essential for the success of our event. Please review the list and sign up for the role(s) that best fit your availability and skills. Your support is crucial in making this event impactful for our community.

Pre-Event Tasks:

1. Material Pick-Up

   • Collect materials needed for the event.
   • Time: Prior to event day.

2. Cart Pick-Up

   • Pick up grocery carts for event use.
   • Time: Prior to event day.

3. Coffee Pick-Up

   • Pick up coffee donations for the event.
   • Time: Morning of the event.

4. Snack Pick-Up

   • Pick up snacks for participants.
   • Time: Morning of the event.

Event Day Tasks:

1. Registration Table (3 Volunteers)

   • Assist with participant check-in and registration.
   • Time: 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM.

2. Lead the Line

   • Guide the front of the walking group.
   • Time: 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM.

3. Middle of the Line

   • Assist with maintaining the pace and order in the middle of the group.
   • Time: 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM.

4. End of the Line

   • Ensure that all participants are accounted for and assist anyone who falls behind.
   • Time: 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM.

5. Access to Grocery Carts

   • Provide access to grocery carts for participants to use.
   • Time: 7:30 AM - 8:00 AM.

6. Pack Shelves into Truck

   • Assist with loading shelves onto the truck.
   • Time: 7:00 AM - 7:30 AM.

7. Unload and Place Empty Shelves

   • Assist with unloading and positioning shelves at the Haymarket.
   • Time: 7:30 AM - 8:00 AM.

8. Photo Voice Section

   • Manage the photo voice project, capturing still portraits of participants.
   • Time: 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM.

9. Postcard Distribution and Retrieval

   • Distribute postcards to participants and collect them after the walk.
   • Time: 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM.

10. Postcard Documentation

    • Document and organize collected postcards.
    • Time: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

11. Talking History (2 Volunteers)

    • Provide historical context about the Haymarket during the walk.
    • Time: 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM.

12. Talking Current (2 Volunteers)

    • Discuss current issues related to food justice and public health inequities.
    • Time: 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM.

13. Talking Future (2 Volunteers)

    • Share insights and visions for the future of food justice in our community.
    • Time: 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM.

14. Talking Call to Action

    • Encourage participants to take action and stay engaged in food justice efforts.
    • Time: 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM.

15. Clean Up Haymarket (2 Volunteers)

    • Assist with clean-up at the Haymarket location after the event.
    • Time: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

16. Return Shelves

    • Help return shelves to their original location.
    • Time: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

17. Pushing Carts (6 Volunteers)

    • Assist participants in moving grocery carts during the walk.
    • Time: 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM.

18. Return Carts

    • Ensure all carts are returned after the event.
    • Time: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

19. General Note Taking (2 Volunteers)

    • Take notes and document important information during the event.
    • Time: 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM.

20. Clean Up (2 Volunteers)

    • Assist with general clean-up at Baxter Square after the event.
    • Time: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

21. Evaluation and Follow-Up

    • Help with post-event evaluation and follow-up tasks.
    • Time: Post-event, flexible timing.

22. Live Stream

    • Manage the live streaming of the event for remote participants.
    • Time: 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM.
