Pasta Dinner and Talent Show

Every spring our youth work together with staff and volunteers to plan and host LYG's annual Pasta Dinner and Talent Show. This is the community's favorite LYG fundraiser and it requires a lot of hands working together to make it happen. Keep your eyes and ears open to find out how to support this event each year.

Pride Festivals & Events

LYG participates in all of Kentuckiana's major Pride events. Each year we encourage volunteers and supporters to march in parades, represent LYG at events, and help plan and run the Family Zone.

Queer Prom

Every Spring, LYG throws a "Silent Disco" Queer Prom for LGBTQIA+ and Allied folks. We always need a strong setup team, engaging chaperones, activity leaders, and a clean up crew.

Glitter Gala

The Glitter Gala is LYG's annual 21+ fundraising event. LYG is dedicated to featuring local Queer artists and performers, supporting local businesses, and celebrating the work of LYG and the people who make that work possible. LYG invites volunteers to join the Gala planning committee, or to help manage logistics the day of the event.

Empowerment Camp

Each Fall, LYG takes 60 LGBTQIA+ youth on a weekend trip to offer them the opportunity to build stronger relationships, develop their leadership skills and experience nature. There are a lot of pre-camp errands and tasks that volunteers can support, and we're always looking for reliable volunteers to be camp counselors. (Counselors need to pass a background check and do a short training with our program team before leaving for camp)

NYE Youth Lock-in

NYE is the perfect night for an overnight party. LYG offers youth a safe, and fun filled night to celebrate the New Year! LYG can always use help preparing for the lock-in, and we always need chaperones to spend the night. (Chaperones need to pass a background check and do a short training with our program team before the lock-in)

LYG mentors create a brave space for our youth, build trust through relationships, and promote positive conversation and self-image. Mentors strengthen LYG by sharing their unique talents and gifts with our youth, staff, and each other.   You must be between the ages of 21+ to mentor for our Junior Group (5-12) or 24+ to mentor for our young adult groups (13-24).

Mentor Commitment & Expectations: These are subject to change due to Public Health concerns, Program changes, and LYG Staff capacity.

Mentors are supervised by the Program Director, and may work collaboratively with other LYG staff / program coordinators.

The youth at Louisville Youth Group LOVE to play board games.  To build program capacity, we are renovating our former board room into a gamer's paradise, complete with tabletop games, a video game station, and storage!  We need your help to provide games, game consoles, gaming supplies (ex: dice, reusable maps, DM screens, figurines, etc.) to help entertain and engage the youth we serve.

Your donation helps provide these critical items to support youth and young adults in their identity and mental health, especially as many states are prohibiting medical transitioning services.

The Bank Street Food Bank, is in need of volunteers to assist with the food pantry. Volunteers are needed to assist with checking expiration dates, building boxes, organizing the donation room, and packing boxes with nonperishable items for weekly distribution to those within the community. 

Gentiva Hospice is looking for Tuck-In Volunteers:

One to two volunteers are needed weekly in our office to make tuck-in calls to our patients or family members.  These calls are necessary to ensure that our patients have needed medications, supplies and/or support service.

Gentiva Hospice is looking for Veteran-to-Veteran Volunteers to visit patients in their home, assisted living or skilled nursing facilities throughout Southern Indian.

Our hospice program, "Vets Caring for Vets" need retired or active-duty military members who are willing to share some of their time to help support veterans who are terminally ill.

Veteran's share a comradery through military experiences that are unique to them.  Volunteers will be trained to work directly with patients and families to provide services such as companionship, emotional support, socialization and respite for caregivers.

The preschool for deaf children here needs help with moving furniture to an adjacent building. We would like 5-10 volunteers. If time permits, we may do some outdoor beautification work.

First impressions go a long way! Greeter and wayfinder volunteers set the tone for a positive experience by welcoming patients, families and guests entering the hospital. These volunteers also escort patients to their destinations and assist in providing directions or other facility information.

Each of our hospitals provides care for over 100,000 patients over the course of a year. Along with our patients’ unique treatment and personal needs, clerical needs accompany each visit. Clerical volunteers support our hospitals by performing a wide range of duties such as copying, filing, cutting, laminating, assembling resource packets and supply kits, making phone calls, providing reminders, stocking materials, decorating, sorting mail and more.

Department volunteers are an important part of providing the level of compassionate care for which our hospitals are known. Department volunteers support a specific department and may perform a variety of responsibilities, including responding to patient requests, making patient rounds in treatment and lobby areas, and providing clerical support.

Our volunteers make patient/family rounds and provide items to help make their stay more comfortable. One of the items we like to provide are magazines. Patients and visitors enjoy a variety of reading materials - home, fashion, sports, entertainment, nature. If you have magazines to donate, please contact us to arrange a drop-off or pick-up.

Our hospital gift shops can provide a breath of fresh air for patients, families, guests and employees in need of a pick-me-up. Gift shop volunteers work the cash registers, record and stock inventory, arrange shop displays, coordinate phone orders, open and close the shops, and provide friendly customer service.

CASA supports and promotes court-appointed volunteer advocacy for children who have experienced abuse or neglect so that they can thrive in safe, permanent homes.

Speak with all adults involved with the child from parents to foster parents to teachers, counselors, therapists, etc. to get the most well-rounded and complete picture of the child’s life and needs

Submit a court report that explains the current status of the case and make recommendations for support of the child, placement of the child, and services needed. Attend court hearings when available.

Open Hand Kitchen

The Open Hand Kitchen at 1026 South Jackson St. serves free meals to shelter clients as well as the poor and working poor in our community.

They are open 365 days a year, serving two nutritious meals each day, at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. The cafeteria-style dining room offers guests an entrée, vegetables, salad, dessert, bread, and beverage.

St. Vincent de Paul Louisville’s Open Hand Kitchen opened in October 1983 in St. Paul Catholic Church at 1026 South Jackson St. The Open Hand Kitchen relies heavily on dedicated groups of volunteers, who serve two meals a day – at noon for lunch and 5pm for dinner – to anyone in need, no questions asked. Each year, the Open Hand Kitchen serves more than 90,000 meals.

Food Pantry

The Food Pantry is open from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is fully staffed by volunteers and offers canned goods, proteins, pasta, shelf-stable beverages as well as frozen foods including meat, poultry, and fish. Fresh produce is also available year-round. In 2022, with the price of groceries largely increasing, the Food Pantry served an average of more than 650 households monthly.

With support from Dare to Care Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul’s Food Pantry opened in July 2014, serving residents in one of Louisville’s poorest neighborhoods.

Catholic Charities is a wonderful organization that our department has had the privilege to volunteer with. Catholic Charities is in need of assistance with gathering goods that have been donated, in their donation area and packaging them up for apartments for families in need. This opportunity is wonderful for individuals as well as groups. Please reach out for any questions you may have. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

The Salvation Army is an organization that our department has had the privilege to volunteer with. This organization always needs assistance with packaging together boxes of nonperishable items as well as organizing the donation room. Whether you volunteer as a group or as an individual, there are many tasks at the Salvation Army that are needed to be done. 

Volunteers are needed to help serve the hot nutritious daily meals provided by Dare to Care Mon. through Fri. at 4:00.  Volunteers are needed to simply plate food and serve it to the kids. The Girl In Us is a self esteem program for girls 1st through 12th grade.  We will be collecting hygiene and hair care products.  We are collecting travel size deodorant, tooth paste, toothbrushes, dental floss, feminine products, hand sanitizer, combs, brushes, pony tail holders, edge brushes, hair gel, lip gloss, finger nail polish, scrunchies.

We will sort medical supplies to count and pack to disburse globally, which includes local.  

We are going to be opening on Tuesdays to serve the community due to the growing need.  Every Tuesday in April we will be accepting volunteers to help us get the off the ground.  

The Delta Foundation needs volunteers for their Books and Basketball program, that meets on Tuesday's beginning April 25th from 6:30-7:45. Volunteers will tutor on reading and literacy and will enjoy basketball with the youth as well. All materials will be provided. This volunteer opportunity focuses on youth mentorship, as well as education for those who are at risk.

Louisville Youth Group’s board performs the important vision work required to continue a path of growth and opportunity for LYG. The Board determines our mission, oversees the work of our director, creates and maintains our strategic plan, builds fundraising and development resources.

ChooseWell Communities' mission is to create a community that equips families in recover with children under the age of five to choose well for their future.

Every Wednesday, ChooseWell Communities has their clients and their families come to our space at Sanctuary Church for programming. While they are with us, the families are unable to have a family meal. That's where you come in!

Empty nesters who are used to feeding an army? Any grill masters who love time making meals? Is cooking your love language?

We are looking for volunteers who want to make meals for our families while they are doing what they need to improve their situation and have a better life for themselves and their family. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant, just enough to feed about 45 people (20 adults, 25 kids).

ChooseWell Communities' mission is to create a community that equips families in recovery with children under the age of five to choose well for their future.

Each Wednesday evening, our clients gather in person for a hot meal and educational programming, building their capacity for Recovery Capital and sustainability. While the parents are taking the steps to turn their lives around, their children are playing and doing activities. Just wait until you see this space!!

After School Tutoring

This After School Learning Program matches Adelante students with Tutors from all over the world to work together in learning and improving skills. The program takes place entirely online, meaning that tutors volunteer in the comfort of their own home. Virtual Learning will offer continued educational opportunities to Adelante students during the summer months and into the school year.

College Corps Program 

This program focuses on preparing junior and senior high school Latinx students to access and succeed in college. In this program, we pair students with local professionals who become the students’ mentors for the length of the school year. 

This program meets once a month on a Saturday, offering workshops where students and mentors learn about college applications, scholarships, and the college experience in general. Students also visit up to 4 colleges each academic year. 

Students and mentors work together on an ongoing, weekly basis to ensure that students have a solid college-prep plan during their junior and senior years and are on track to submit admissions and scholarship applications.

The Boys & Girls Clubs will be serving hundreds of kids this summer.  If you are your company is interested in collecting supplies for summer fun, we are in need of the following items:

Best Buddies Friendship programs represent one of our organization’s four key mission pillars.  These programs build one-to-one friendships between people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), offering social interactions while improving the quality of life and level of inclusion for a population that is often isolated and excluded. Through their participation, people with IDD form meaningful connections with their peers, gain self-confidence and self-esteem, and share interests, experiences and activities that many other individuals enjoy.

The Best Buddies Citizens program supports the development of friendships between adults with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in corporate and civic communities. Many people with IDD have limited opportunities for social interactions after they leave the school environment. This program helps people with IDD become part of mainstream society and creates an inclusive and diverse community for all.

If you are a person without a disability that is looking to make a new friend, this is the volunteer opportunity for you!

We are looking for additional board members that are passionate about early literacy and new families.  We are a local non-profit focused on working with local small businesses, to help our local families.  Our board meets bi-monthly for one hour.  

Our R.E.A.D. program volunteers visit families in the hospital that have just had a new baby.  Volunteers deliver our totes that include books and other early learning materials.  Then volunteers discuss the importance of reading, engaging, attaching and discovering with their baby beginning at birth.  Training is required as well as completing the hospital's volunteer checklist.

YMCA Safe Place Services needs volunteers to mentor in the Y-NOW Mentoring Program. The program pairs mentors with youth with incarcerated parents to serve as positive adult role models.

SCS needs more help sprucing up our sites in preparation for the warm weather. During this opportunity, we will spend time cleaning outdoor grounds, mulching grounds, and planting.

You and your team can come to 1 of our 5 campuses to help clean up the community areas where our participants interact. Keeping everything clean and sanitized is a priority and this is super helpful now that we are doing more and more in-person activities! This can be indoors and outdoors. Activities might include: Sanitizing the play rooms and toys, cleaning the computer labs, sweeping/mopping the gym, etc.. We also have outdoor needs such as: Pulling weeds at the play ground, sanitizing play areas, washing windows, etc. 

Linda's Closet is our professional clothing closet that is open for our participants to shop for professional clothing before interviews, networking events, scholarship panels or internships. You can help us sort through new donations, sanitize and organize all of the clothing for our participants to come in and shop! 

We are currently accepting Jewelry, shoes, purses, and all other accessories for professional clothing. (Currently have a need for sizes 12-18 in professional clothing and size 8+ in shoes) 

 We are also in need of shelving, clothing racks, or mannequins for our clothing closet if you have these items for donations(:

Write encouraging notes to our single parents and Foster Alumni! As our participants juggle a lot of responsibilities, it’s always nice to be reminded you’re doing a good job! With mother’s day coming up, our mother’s could also use some kind words for all that they do! 

Put together activities for children. This could include creating flash cards (alphabet), sight word flash cards, current holiday children’s activity, etc. 

Create short 6-10 minute informational videos to increase our participants and their children’s skill-set. Some examples of needed videos include: -Fun Summer activities for young children (learning or to keep busy), How to keep the house clean (ways to do small things every day in order to keep the house in order, easy and healthy recipes, Academic (study habits, testing tips, how to get organized) Career (do/don’ts on a resume or in an interview), etc. The videos will only be accessible to our participants on our private YouTube channel. This is a big need right now! 

While our children are on spring break they don't have access to healthy, hot lunches everyday. We like to provide supplemental healthy snacks for our children ages 3-18. 

You can create snack bags for our children containing healthy, non-perishable, non-refrigerated snacks, such as applesauce packs, goldfish crackers, fruit snacks, granola bars, etc. You can even decorate the snack bags if you choose.   

We will deliver them directly to our families' doors.

The single parents at Family Scholar House are in need of diapers and wipes for their little ones, non-perishable pantry items, and household essentials. Organizing a donation drive really help us to collect diapers (even already opened packages, especially sizes 5 & 6, and all pull-up sizes), baby wipes, non-perishable food items such as peanut butter/ canned foods, toiletries and cleaning supplies for our families. 

We have recently moved into the Louisville Pride LGBTQ+ center and we are looking for help with the cleanup and organizing of our facilities. Help us with cleaning our parking lot, organizing our offices and community spaces, changing doorknobs, and additional tasks not listed.

We recently moved into the Louisville Pride Community Center and we need help painting the facility. Training and tools will be provided on-site.

Landscaping project, including mulching and general flower bed maintenance at a House of Ruth property to help create a more tidy and inviting entrance.

We need people to volunteer and sort medical items to get them counted and boxed up.

Do you love to find hidden gems, grants, and other resources that can benefit your community? If so, let me introduce you to SPARC Hope. We are a small non-profit that serves single parents who are working, pursuing higher education, and raising their kids. This program is not a handout, but a hand up by providing resources and services to those who are working hard to secure a brighter future for their family.

In order to expand our programs, we need help researching resources, incentives, grants, and other resources that can help our organization and the families we serve.  Some ideas include:

We are looking for people to assist us with our fundraising events throughout the year. We try to plan for at least two big events per year!

As part of the services provided in our program, SPARC Hope Clients must meet certain criteria prior to being accepted into the program. We are looking for volunteers to learn the intake process and then to walk alongside them as an advocate as they work to become a LIFE PLAN client. Some may enter at varying levels of our program services which include:

As a Client Intake Advocate, you will assist with intake applications and interview preparation for our programs. You will provide encouragement, follow-up with potential clients to move along the process, and provide an ear to listen and hand to hold when needed. It is the goal for every intake to enter the Life Plan program. As an Intake Advocate, you will help them get into our Life Plan program so that they can go on to meet their educational and career goals. 

Are you available on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month and have a SUV/Truck/Van?

SPARC Hope currently has a partnership with Dare to Care where we receive frozen goods, fresh produce, and nonperishable/ perishable items. We are needing to build a team (2-4 people) to pick up our Dare to Care order with an SUV/Van/Truck and deliver to SPARC Hope.

One way we help fund our consignment program is by having donors consign their gently used items to local consignment stores we work with in our name. The proceeds from the sold consigned-items are then donated to our program fund. We then get credit from the consignment store to give to our clients to use when needed.  This offers our clients a nice savings on their clothing budget.

We need someone that knows the ins and outs of consigning,  best places to consign, and is willing to take the task of OWNING our Consignment Program. This opportunity can be done off-site or from home once training is provided. Responsibilities include:

Looking for a way to volunteer but you just don’t have time, physical capability, or a lot of resources. Do you have a group of friends, family or church members that are looking for ways to support an organization? Let me introduce you to SPARC Hope, we are a non-profit that supports single working parents who are pursuing higher education. We provide resources and services directly to the parent and their families as they work toward the goal of providing a better and brighter future for their families.

One resource we provide is an on-site pantry where parents can come shop for all their grocery and household needs. You can also host a themed pantry-drive for holidays or important milestones. We are looking for volunteers to assist/coordinate our special programs throughout the year that assist our clients. Would you like to support the children of the families employed on the backside of Churchill Downs by working with our Family Program? The Backside Learning Center is in search of an intern who enjoys engaging with kids and can offer energy and organization to our programming. This position involves helping match kids with online homework help, planning social distanced yet engaging group activities, and organize possible field trips and outings. Dates and hours will vary. Spanish language skills are encouraged. Proof of vaccine is required.

Would you like to use your skills to help the Latino Community of Louisville while also increasing your knowledge in the communications field? We are looking for interns or volunteers interested in gaining experience in a wide variety of communications activities. These include videography, multimedia editing, writing, photography, content creation, social media and marketing. Training is available. Dates and hours will vary. Vaccine required

Would you like to use your Spanish in a real-world setting while helping the Latinx Community of Louisville? The Backside Learning Center is in search of a Social Services Intern! This position would involve helping clients schedule appointments, make copies, translate simple documents, and make phone calls, as well as other simple office duties such as counting and organizing resources. Training is provided and staff will always be present to answer questions. Hours are from 9 a.m-12 p.m. one to two days a week. Spanish speaking skills and proof of vaccine required.

The Conrad-Caldwell House Museum, a Victorian house museum located in Old Louisville, is looking for welcoming and friendly volunteers to assist in our gift shop.  Duties include interacting with visitors, operating a cash register, answering questions about the museum, and providing a positive atmosphere for our out-of-town guests.  Training will be provided.  At present, the museum is only open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.  We are flexible and can work with your schedule!

New Directions' Repair Affair utilizes volunteers to assist low-income, elderly and people living with disabilities with FREE home repairs. In just one day, a volunteer team can completely change the life of a homeowner in need. Repairs range from low skill yard work and paint to high skill repairs like gutters, handrails, locksets, grab bars, flooring, toilets, faucets and more. Teams can range in size from as small as 2 to as large as 50. But due to COVID-19, we are limiting teams to 10 or fewer people per house. Teams can volunteer for as little as 4 hours to more than one day.

Once a team signs up, they will be matched with a homeowner. Repair Affair staff is onsite to show teams what repairs they will taking on, and to help guide the team through their project.

Volunteers provide homework help and tutoring to students enrolled in the United Learning after-school program as well as assist with enrichment activities. This program follows the JCPS schedule and operates after-school from 3:00pm – 6:00pm. UCHM asks that volunteers commit to at least two hours a week for one academic semester. This program will resume August 16th, and will operate on any day that students are in school. 

Cedar Lake is looking for ongoing/ standing volunteers at our day program in La Grange, KY. Volunteers will assist with learning and creative activities and spend quality time with our individuals. Individuals, families, companies, or other groups are invited to have fun putting together special activities such as crafts, game night, a baby shower, a birthday party or a holiday party for clients in one of our many programs!  We serve homeless families, veterans, individuals in residential addiction recovery, individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, and seniors.  They all welcome interacting with caring folks from the community who are willing to bring the party to them!  Interested?  Decide on the focus of the party you want to provide, gather all the resources including snacks, and come make life a little brighter for our clients!

Help us with cleaning, organizing, landscaping, building, repairing and/or restoring the buildings and grounds at one of our many program locations.  Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.  Individuals and groups are encouraged to respond to this opportunity.  Project duration varies based on number of volunteers and scope of particular project.  Projects may be indoor or outdoor.  If you have special skills such as carpentry, construction, landscaping, or other special trades, please let us know so we can direct your efforts more appropriately.  Projects may occur during weekdays, weekday evenings, or weekends.

Our member garden is in need of some TLC. Our members use this garden during our Gardening group as well as our Healthy Eating and Living group.

Our new art studio is in need of supplies for our members art therapy groups.

Guided group volunteer projects are a great way for your employees, club, or group to enjoy our parks while giving back to the community. Parks staff will lead your group through a service project to help improve a park, and all the tools and supplies for the project will be provided.

Projects are seasonal and may involve raking leaves, mulching, weeding, painting, litter clean-ups, and other projects as needed.

Volunteers read one-on-one weekly with struggling readers in Clark County elementary schools. Volunteers start with students in first grade and follow them through second and third grades. Each student is also given a book each week they meet with the volunteer to build their own home library.

Y-NOW is a 10 month mentoring program for Louisville youth ages 11-15 with a parent who is or has been incarcerated. Youth are paired with a thoroughly screened and trained adult volunteer who they commit to engaging with once a week during the 10 months. These engagements include one-on-one meetings in the community and attending curriculum-based life-skill group meetings. 

Importance of Position: The TeleCare Volunteer provides a reliable means of contact for older adults and promotes social engagement and personal connection.

Benefits of Volunteering: The personal satisfaction of providing a much needed service to those wanting to remain in their own homes. Also, studies have shown volunteering improves overall health and well-being!

Time Commitment: Phone calls must be completed between 8:00am and 1:00pm on assigned weekdays.

Location: Phone calls can be made from any location that is free of unnecessary background noise that would make it difficult for an older adult to hear.

Importance of Position: Performs a vital role in supporting older adults’ desire to remain independent by providing guidance and support to living a more active lifestyle.

Volunteer in our food pantry Monday – Thursday from 1:00 – 4:00pm. Food pantry volunteers assist with stocking and organizing food, assembling food boxes for families, and helping clients with their needs.

Donation pick-up volunteers transport food donations to and from various partners including Fresh Market and Kroger. Schedules for drivers are flexible during the daytime on weekdays. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation needed.
