Join us for the 6th annual, Greatest Give Back, on Thursday, September 25th, 2025, hosted by the Muhammad Ali Center and Metro United Way!

Volunteers at The Greatest Give Back will work in two shifts to fill hygiene kits and laundry kits that will be distributed to local nonprofit agencies across MUW's seven-county service area in Kentucky and Southern Indiana - giving the greatest gift of all – service to others.

Help us “TKO the need” by participating in The Greatest Comfort from 2:00 - 3:30pm at the Muhammad Ali Center! Volunteers will decorate a drawstring backpack (no art skills necessary - we make it easy for everyone to create a great bag!) and fill it with laundry supplies essential for health, dignity and confidence to people of all ages.

One volunteer group is needed to provide 100 candy bags for our kids at our upcoming Halloween celebration!!! (Or two volunteer groups can provide 50 candy bags each!)

Volunteer duties include: purchasing candy & 100 small plastic gift bags, assembling the bags, and dropping them off at The Cabbage Patch Settlement House.

(Volunteer groups also have the option to include other small goodies in addition to candy, such as Halloween-themed pencils, erasers, keychains, etc.)

Note: all candy must be unopened & individually wrapped! Additionally, we request that 20 of the 100 bags contain candy that is nut-free (for our kiddos with allergies).

Blitz Team Leaders head a team of 3-6 volunteers who apply weatherizing window plastic to the homes of elderly and/or disabled individuals in Jefferson county. Team Leaders receive a virtual training video prior to the event and are in charge of passing that information along to their team. Project Warm will assign volunteer teams to client addresses a week prior to the Blitz, and Team Leaders will be responsible for calling those households to introduce themselves and confirm what time the team will be coming by. Team Leaders must be aged 18+ and have a valid drivers license. The event is expected to run from 9am to early afternoon.

Please note that Project Warm does NOT assemble teams. Team Leaders are responsible for providing the names of all team members when signing up for the Blitz event.

Volunteer: Healthy Homes "Seconds"

Healthy Homes Seconds will ride alone with one of our trained Healthy Homes Evaluators to assist in the interview and evaluation portion of our Healthy Homes program. Seconds will be another set of eyes and ears during the interview, and will sit with the client while the Healthy Homes Evaluator inspects the home. They may also relay questions and answers for clients with mobility challenges, and make conversation throughout the 4-hour visit. All Seconds volunteers will receive an orientation prior to their first home visit, as well as the opportunity to ride along on a fully-staffed visit prior to ‘going live.’. Prior health care or hospitality experience is welcome but not required.

Our neighborhood cleanups provide a way for community members to help keep Louisville clean, green and beautiful all throughout the year. This is a great opportunity to foster civic pride and community engagement. Use this opportunity as a team building activity within your place of employment, neighborhood, place of worship, school and other community or service groups. No group is too small, whether it be one person or one hundred, all of our volunteers make an impact.

Simply pick a day and a place, round up a few people and get to work! We ask that you provide us with a minimum of TWO WEEKS notice to allow for scheduling trash collection with Solid Waste Management. Cleanups scheduled with less notice will be asked to find alternative means of disposing the collected litter and debris.

Make a Difference in a Student’s Life

Join EnCorps’ STEMx Tutors program to virtually tutor math to middle school students who are under-performing in Foundational Math, Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. 


As a volunteer math tutor, you prepare students for the rigor of high school mathematics and establish the foundational knowledge needed to pursue a college education that prepares students for a career in an increasingly technical world.


EnCorps STEMx Tutors make a significant difference in a student’s relationship with math: 86% of students who take part in the program increased their math scores in the 2023-24 academic year!


Choose When You Tutor One Hour, Twice a Week

The STEMx Tutors program is designed for busy professionals like you. As a STEMx Tutor, you commit to tutoring one hour, twice a week. EnCorps utilizes a 2:1 or 1:1 student-to-tutor ratio. 


As a 2:1 tutor, tutoring sessions take place for one hour, at the same time, twice a week between 12:00 - 5:30 p.m. PST. In turn, the 1:1 tutor, you will determine the day and time of your virtual tutoring sessions with your student


We ask that you commit to tutoring for a minimum of one semester with the option to renew. Many of our tutors have been in the program for four years.


EnCorps Support

EnCorps provides its volunteer tutors with training and support. Your dedicated Program Coordinator will provide you access to our Google Classroom where you will find a plethora of resources, invite you to online seminars, and offer the option to join our annual Learning Summit where you can network with other tutors as well as STEM professional who are exploring STEM teaching through the EnCorps STEM Teachers program.


Program Eligibility

EnCorps STEMx Tutors must meet the following requirements:  


Have a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (does not have to be in a STEM field) and have at least 1 year of hands-on STEM industry work experience or have an advanced degree in a STEM field

Junior or senior in a college-accredited STEM bachelor’s program with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

Hold a professional certificate in a STEM field and have at least 1 year of hands-on STEM work experience

A current or former credentialed math teacher


All candidates must also be eligible to work in the US and currently live in the US

The STEMx Tutors program is designed for busy professionals like you. As a STEMx Tutor, you commit to tutoring one hour, twice a week. EnCorps utilizes a 2:1 or 1:1 student-to-tutor ratio. 


As a 2:1 tutor, tutoring sessions take place for one hour, at the same time, twice a week between 12:00 - 5:30 p.m. PST. In turn, the 1:1 tutor, you will determine the day and time of your virtual tutoring sessions with your student


We ask that you commit to tutoring for a minimum of one semester with the option to renew. Many of our tutors have been in the program for four years.


EnCorps Support

EnCorps provides its volunteer tutors with training and support. Your dedicated Program Coordinator will provide you access to our Google Classroom where you will find a plethora of resources, invite you to online seminars, and offer the option to join our annual Learning Summit where you can network with other tutors as well as STEM professional who are exploring STEM teaching through the EnCorps STEM Teachers program.


Program Eligibility

EnCorps STEMx Tutors must meet the following requirements:  


Have a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (does not have to be in a STEM field) and have at least 1 year of hands-on STEM industry work experience or have an advanced degree in a STEM field

Junior or senior in a college-accredited STEM bachelor’s program with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

Hold a professional certificate in a STEM field and have at least 1 year of hands-on STEM work experience

A current or former credentialed math teacher


All candidates must also be eligible to work in the US and currently live in the US

DESCRIPTION

The Client Transportation Volunteer provides critical support to meet the basic needs of new arrivals. This volunteer uses their personal vehicle to transport clients to and from critical health appointments, required client trainings, and various other vital service sites. This volunteer works closely with the Resettlement team to ensure clients’ ability to access basic community services in order to thrive within their new communities. This role will have more client interactions than any other current volunteer role.

WHO WE ARE

The mission of the IRC is to help people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster, including the climate crisis, to survive, recover and gain control over their future. The International Rescue Committee provides opportunities for refugees, asylees, victims of human trafficking, survivors of torture, and other immigrants to thrive in America. Each year, thousands of people, forced to flee violence and persecution, are welcomed by the people of the United States into the safety and freedom of America. These individuals have survived against incredible odds. The IRC works with government bodies, civil society actors, and local volunteers to help them translate their past experiences into assets that are valuable to their new communities. Volunteer: Meals from the Heart - Chef-led Experience

A simple meal can provide significant comfort for families after an exhausting day at the hospital. We invite you to visit us and prepare a hot, delicious dinner for our families with our amazingly talented chef, Chef James.

Experience the excitement of cooking with a professional chef, with the bonus of helping families in need. Whether you’re looking for a team-building activity for colleagues or a fun way to give back with friends and family, our NEW chef-led experience with Chef James is a great way for groups to be part of our mission and serve families. As a Meals from the Heart volunteer, you provide so much more than food. You provide families with a sense of comfort and community.

To participate, groups give a $300 donation to support our meal program.

Meet Chef James

Chef James graduated with a B.A. in culinary management from the International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. He’s been cooking for 14 years and was the Executive Chef at Whiskey Dry by Ed Lee and Sous Chef at Milkwood. Most recently, Chef James served as the Culinary Liaison to The LEE Initiative.

Volunteer: Volunteers for Saturday Program

Saturday Mentoring and Enrichment Program

This program is a weekly workshop that provides experiential learning opportunities and college visits to middle and high school Latinx students in the Louisville area. Each Saturday throughout the academic year we engage presenters to share their knowledge and expertise with our group of 6th - 12th grade Achievers. We also take field trips to various enrichment activities within the community to enhance students' understanding of their options in life after graduating from high school.
Due to high volume of Achievers, Adelante is looking for volunteers to support the staff and presenters with several duties including, student engagement, translation of English to Spanish or Spanish to English, chaperones for field trips and set-up and break-down of program site

Tour Escorts

Our tour escorts are a core part of the Kentucky Derby Museum experience as they help guests during our historic walking tour of Churchill Downs. After a certain number of hours Volunteers also have the ability to escort our Backstretch Breakfast Tours where visitors receive a behind the scenes look at the Churchill Downs Infield and might even catch some horses on the track.

 

Events

Our Events Volunteers assist with a wide variety of activities such as helping visitors design their very own Derby hat or decorate horseshoes. These events are designed to bring the vibrant energy of The Derby to groups in and outside of the Kentucky Derby Museum.

 

Docent

The Kentucky Derby Museum welcomes hundreds of school children during the year. Docents play a key role in school visits by presenting various exhibitions to school groups throughout the year.

 

Independent Projects

From assisting our retail department to cataloging and clerical work, these Volunteers help Museum staff with crucial day to day projects.
