Help us table at the West End Farmer's Market located at California Park and be amongst the community. Raise awareness of The Food Literacy Project's mission, pass out information on our organization and share ways for the community to get involved with us.

One volunteer group is needed to provide 100 candy bags for our kids at our upcoming Halloween celebration!!! (Or two volunteer groups can provide 50 candy bags each!)

Volunteer duties include: purchasing candy & 100 small plastic gift bags, assembling the bags, and dropping them off at The Cabbage Patch Settlement House.

(Volunteer groups also have the option to include other small goodies in addition to candy, such as Halloween-themed pencils, erasers, keychains, etc.)

Note: all candy must be unopened & individually wrapped! Additionally, we request that 20 of the 100 bags contain candy that is nut-free (for our kiddos with allergies).

Blitz Team Leaders head a team of 3-6 volunteers who apply weatherizing window plastic to the homes of elderly and/or disabled individuals in Jefferson county. Team Leaders receive a virtual training video prior to the event and are in charge of passing that information along to their team. Project Warm will assign volunteer teams to client addresses a week prior to the Blitz, and Team Leaders will be responsible for calling those households to introduce themselves and confirm what time the team will be coming by. Team Leaders must be aged 18+ and have a valid drivers license. The event is expected to run from 9am to early afternoon.

Please note that Project Warm does NOT assemble teams. Team Leaders are responsible for providing the names of all team members when signing up for the Blitz event.

Healthy Homes Seconds will ride alone with one of our trained Healthy Homes Evaluators to assist in the interview and evaluation portion of our Healthy Homes program. Seconds will be another set of eyes and ears during the interview, and will sit with the client while the Healthy Homes Evaluator inspects the home. They may also relay questions and answers for clients with mobility challenges, and make conversation throughout the 4-hour visit. All Seconds volunteers will receive an orientation prior to their first home visit, as well as the opportunity to ride along on a fully-staffed visit prior to ‘going live.’. Prior health care or hospitality experience is welcome but not required.

Looking to get your hands dirty? With supervision from Project Warm's Weatherization Specialist, volunteers assist in installing weather stripping, repairing cracked and leaky windows, replacing furnace filters, and other minor home repairs, all with the goal of making clients' homes more comfortable and energy efficient. Volunteers for the First Line program meet Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at the Project Warm office and head out to job sites from there. Work goes from approximately 9:30 AM to early afternoon. Prior home repair experience is welcome but not required.

​Skills required: Good sense of humor, respect for safety, knowing how to read a tape measure, ability to operate a power saw, drill, and other standard tools. We will provide training.

The Awake Food Bank in Shelbyville, KY needs volunteer drivers to help pick up food donations from local businesses. Donations are brought back to the Food Bank to be sorted and distributed to Shelby County residents. Shifts available 7AM-9AM Monday-Saturday.

On Wednesday mornings, the food bank needs drivers to deliver boxes of food to local people who are unable to leave their homes. Shifts available 7AM-9AM Wednesday.

Meals can be cooked off-site (to be heated up at the Cabbage Patch upon arrival) or on-site in the Cabbage Patch kitchen. For cooking on-site, groups of five volunteers work best (as groups bigger than this would have a hard time moving around the kitchen). 

Meal serving begins at 6:00 PM and lasts for approximately 30-40 minutes, with clean-up to follow.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana serves children and young adults who want and need a mentor. BBBSKY matches Littles ages 7-17 with Bigs in a one-to-one mentorship. Bigs and Littles hang out 2-3 times a month for a few hours doing normal, everyday activities, like seeing a movie, doing homework, playing games, going out to eat, or just hanging out! We ask our Bigs for a minimum one-year commitment to their Little. This is a great opportunity to support the youth in our community that need your guidance and support.

We need your help to keep great books accessible to communities 24/7. Visit Little Free Libraries in your community to distribute books! 

We can suggest where to look for free or inexpensive books, or if you already have some, you can share those too. You can find book-sharing boxes near you using our world map or free mobile app.

Because we know access to books is a leading indicator of a child’s success in school, we build, maintain, and fill a network of 42 Little Free Libraries. Since installing the first libraries in 2015, we’ve distributed 200,000 books. These libraries provide free and easy access to books for children and families who may live a distance from public libraries or lack convenient transportation. We can use your support to help keep the libraries full! You can donate new or gently used books to ensure that everyone who visits the libraries has books.

We are looking for businesses, schools, churches, neighborhoods, and/or individuals to host diaper drives for our diaper bank -- we are the only diaper bank in the state of Kentucky that supplies diapers for multiple agencies in our community and the need is huge!

Our current need is for size Newborn, fives, sixes, and pull ups but all diapers are accepted. We will even accept open packages if your child has out-grown them. Diapers can be dropped off at St. Bernadette Church at 6500 St. Bernadette Ave, Prospect KY or you can call us if you need to arrange for a pickup.

Once your cleanup has been registered, you may pick up your requested supplies at the Metro Solid Waste Meriwether Facility located at 600 Meriwether Ave. Supply pick up is available by appointment only. 

Any group who would like to host a cleanup can be provided gloves, trash bags and a limited quantity of brooms, rakes and shovels at no cost. Simply pick a day and a place, round up a few people and get to work! We ask that you provide us with a minimum of TWO WEEKS notice to allow for scheduling trash collection with Solid Waste Management. Cleanups scheduled with less notice will be asked to find alternative means of disposing the collected litter and debris.

Volunteering at Feed Louisville, you will be tasked with organizing, chopping and sorting produce for distribution. This organization is able to host large groups.

At the Dare to Care Community Kitchen, your group will be tasked with preparing meals for distribution for the youth in the community. community centers and places of worship are some of the many groups that receive daily meals. This opportunity fills up fast, therefore if you would like to volunteer, it is recommended that you plan in advance.

Make a Difference in a Student’s Life

Join EnCorps’ STEMx Tutors program to virtually tutor math to middle school students who are under-performing in Foundational Math, Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. 

Many of the children at Bellewood & Brooklawn have experienced abuse and neglect and often arrive at our campus with their belongings in plastic garbage bags, unsure of what lies ahead. You can help ease their transition into our care and make it less intimidating. By donating items for our Welcome Baskets, you will help each child feel welcomed and supported as they begin their new journey.

Items needed for the baskets include a laundry basket, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, toothbrush/toothpaste, towels, washcloths, blankets, small games, stuffed animals, and more.

Many of the children at Bellewood & Brooklawn have faced abuse and neglect, and while we wish they didn’t have to spend their birthday with us, we want to make sure they feel truly special on their big day. You can help make their birthday celebrations memorable by donating to our "Birthday Bags."

These bags are given to our residents to help make their birthday feel joyful and celebrated within their cottages. Items we need for the Birthday Bags include a decorated birthday bag for youth aged 7 to 18, plates and napkins for 15 people, a birthday tablecloth and decorations, birthday candles, a birthday card with warm wishes, and a small gift like puzzles or other small games.

We ask that the items be gender-neutral to be as inclusive as possible. Homemade cards or signs are welcome, but please avoid religious language, as we serve individuals from all faiths and backgrounds.

DESCRIPTION

The Client Transportation Volunteer provides critical support to meet the basic needs of new arrivals. This volunteer uses their personal vehicle to transport clients to and from critical health appointments, required client trainings, and various other vital service sites. This volunteer works closely with the Resettlement team to ensure clients’ ability to access basic community services in order to thrive within their new communities. This role will have more client interactions than any other current volunteer role.

DESCRIPTION

The Home Setup Volunteer provides critical support to meet the basic needs of new arrivals. This volunteer leverages community networks and conducts outreach to solicit & secure in-kind donations focused specifically on household goods, welcome kits, and furniture to set up first homes for our newest neighbors. This volunteer will primarily assist in the vital task of setting up new homes for newly arriving refugees, including unpacking and sorting inventory, lifting, assembling furniture, and ultimately organizing donations to set up homes.

Kentucky Harvest is looking for volunteer drivers to pick up excess food from grocery stores, restaurants, and convenience stores and deliver it to one of our various non-profit partners. Volunteers will download the Kentucky Harvest app and select routes that pick their schedule. When it is time for a volunteer route, the app will give drivers step-by-step instructions on where to go, who to talk to, and what to pick up. Volunteers expect the entire process to take about an hour and a half from start to finish.

Volunteer on a pristine historic homestead doing lawn & garden maintenance & odd jobs. Every week presents a different way to be outside and help this great non-profit organization dedicated to education, preservation and conservation. 

Help us beautify one of Wellspring's Crisis Stabilization Unit properties that helps adults with serious mental illness during times of psychiatric crisis.  Utilizing a calming outdoor space is part of the recovery process and we need help beautifying the outdoor spaces. Duties include trimming bushes, pulling weeds, mulching, raking, etc.

Kept Inc works with adults who are living with a disability.  Some of these adults have difficulty accessing their community to build and maintain friendships.   A community companion would be paired 1:1 with someone who currently receives services from Kept.  The community companion would foster friendship with the individual they are paired with through a monthly phone call.  The companion would be available to chat, give advice, encourage and generally be a touch point in the community for healthy relationship building for the Kept client.

YOU can help change a child's story as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). There are 150-200 children in our region at any given time who are waiting for a CASA volunteer advocate to be trained and assigned to their case. Through no fault of their own, children have experienced abuse and neglect and are involved in the family court system. They need someone like you, to be a safe adult role-model and voice for them in court, in school, and with other support agencies to ensure their best interests are represented.

For over 40 years, CASA has been serving children in Jefferson County. Our service area has grown over time to also include Bullitt, Henry, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer and Trimble Counties. Volunteers must be 21 years of age, complete an application & interview, and pass background checks. CASAs come from many diverse personal and professional backgrounds. Our staff provides comprehensive training to give you the tools to be an effective advocate as well as ongoing support. After initial training, CASAs devote about 1-4 hours per week to their cases.

By partnering with Dare to Care, Neighborhood House is able to help families stretch their grocery budgets by providing a variety of fresh and nutritious food options. We're one of the only food banks in the west end of Louisville open to the public five days a week. The food bank is open Monday-Friday from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM.

Volunteers will greet guests, assist them as they shop, stock shelves, and help with putting away deliveries.

Join Change Today - Change Tomorrow Monday-Thursday from 11 AM to 3 PM to support their free grocery supplemental program. If you have more than ten volunteers, they have several other ways to activate and engage your group outside of their food program.

 The shift from 11am-3pm looks like unloading groceries, sorting groceries, assessing groceries, bagging and preparing groceries or distributing groceries during their pop-ups. Additionally other tasks could be needed. 

SOS International, focuses on organizing unused medical supplies, for the purpose of shipping the contents overseas to areas that need it the most. Contents are also shipped when and if a natural disaster occurs withing the states, and medical supplies are needed.

Our New Horizon programming is for students aged 9-17 who are struggling academically or with school attendance. This program is a year-long commitment where our staff match you with one student for weekly one-on-one tutoring, relationship building, English language help, and/or fun activities.

The Pave the Way program is for young adults aged 16-24 looking for help reaching their college and career goals. Mentors commit to a 6 month program to help with exploration, resumes, college applications, etc. There is also a monthly Pave workshop for mentors and mentees.

A Welcome Team is a group of 5-10 people who assist our case management team with the essential tasks of welcoming a new refugee or immigrant to Louisville. The commitment includes food shopping, furnishing an apartment with donated goods, being present at the airport arrival, and transporting clients to initial appointments.

He’s been cooking for 14 years and was the Executive Chef at Whiskey Dry by Ed Lee and Sous Chef at Milkwood. Most recently, Chef James served as the Culinary Liaison to The LEE Initiative.

The Lighthouse Trustees, lead by Steve Milam, have various opportunities from larger projects to smaller projects, to weekly mowings, etc.  

Saturday Mentoring and Enrichment Program

This program is a weekly workshop that provides experiential learning opportunities and college visits to middle and high school Latinx students in the Louisville area. Each Saturday throughout the academic year we engage presenters to share their knowledge and expertise with our group of 6th - 12th grade Achievers. We also take field trips to various enrichment activities within the community to enhance students' understanding of their options in life after graduating from high school.
Due to high volume of Achievers, Adelante is looking for volunteers to support the staff and presenters with several duties including, student engagement, translation of English to Spanish or Spanish to English, chaperones for field trips and set-up and break-down of program site 

As we approach the colder months, our scholars (big and little) will need gloves, hats and scarves to keep warm. We invite organizations to have a drive for these items. All sizes (adult and children) are needed. Keep our participants warm and safe this winter.

After a certain number of hours Volunteers also have the ability to escort our Backstretch Breakfast Tours where visitors receive a behind the scenes look at the Churchill Downs Infield and might even catch some horses on the track.

Our Events Volunteers assist with a wide variety of activities such as helping visitors design their very own Derby hat or decorate horseshoes. These events are designed to bring the vibrant energy of The Derby to groups in and outside of the Kentucky Derby Museum.

The Kentucky Derby Museum welcomes hundreds of school children during the year. Docents play a key role in school visits by presenting various exhibitions to school groups throughout the year.

From assisting our retail department to cataloging and clerical work, these Volunteers help Museum staff with crucial day to day projects.
