Opportunities From: Metro United Way's Volunteer Connection

Volunteers provide homework help and tutoring to students enrolled in the United Learning after-school program as well as assist with enrichment activities. This program follows the JCPS schedule and operates after-school from 3:00pm – 6:00pm. UCHM asks that volunteers commit to at least two hours a week for one academic semester. This program will resume August 16th, and will operate on any day that students are in school. 

Volunteer in our food pantry Monday – Thursday from 1:00 – 4:00pm. Food pantry volunteers assist with stocking and organizing food, assembling food boxes for families, and helping clients with their needs.

Donation pick-up volunteers transport food donations to and from various partners including Fresh Market and Kroger. Schedules for drivers are flexible during the daytime on weekdays. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation needed.

Volunteers meet virtually with clients who participate in our SOAR program, a program created to provide financial assistance for LG&E up to $200 per month for 6 months. Clients who enroll in the program work with volunteers to develop and complete self-sufficiency goals in order to stay enrolled in the program. During monthly meetings volunteers help to complete a monthly progress report and discuss the ongoing progress towards meeting the goals they set.

Meals on Wheels provides warm meals to homebound seniors. Meals on Wheels Volunteers transport warm meals to seniors in the Louisville area while also providing a welfare check and social support. This opportunity is available weekday mornings.

 Volunteers assist with administrative duties such as answering the UCHM phone, fielding client questions, and coordinating communication between clients and food pantry volunteers. Shifts are available from 9am – 1pm and 1pm – 4pm.
