Community Health Champion: Contribute Your Expertise as a Committee or Board Member

Are you a health and wellness professional passionate about making a difference in your community? We're seeking individuals with expertise in various health-related fields—including public health, health promotion, nutrition, dietetics, counseling, coaching, nursing, medicine, community health work, and more—to join our committee/board. Help us guide our programs and policies, provide health education and support to our neighbors, and foster a healthier community for all. This is a fantastic opportunity to use your skills and knowledge to empower individuals and improve community well-being.

What you'll do (depending on your chosen role):

Committee Member (Internal Affairs/Programs Committee): Collaborate with other committee members to develop and implement strategies that promote health and well-being, address chronic disease, and improve access to vital resources. You'll provide expert guidance on program development, health education initiatives, and community outreach. Board Member: Participate in board meetings, contribute to organizational decision-making, fulfill fiduciary responsibilities, provide strategic oversight of health and wellness initiatives, and ensure alignment with community needs.

Regardless of your role, you might:

Advise on the development and implementation of health-related programs and policies. Provide expertise on best practices in health promotion, disease prevention, and chronic disease management. Contribute to the creation and dissemination of health education materials. Help us identify and address community health needs. Advocate for policies that support community health and well-being. Offer insights into effective strategies for engaging neighbors in health-related initiatives.

What you'll need:

Demonstrated expertise in a health and wellness related field (e.g., public health, health promotion, nutrition, dietetics, counseling, coaching, nursing, medicine, community health work). Strong understanding of community health principles and practices. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. A passion for our mission and a commitment to serving our community. (For Board Service) Willingness to serve on the board, attend meetings, and actively participate in governance.

Spread joy and support by sending cards for birthdays, get-well wishes, and condolences. Reach out with friendly phone calls to check in and connect with members of our community. Plan and facilitate fun and engaging community events, like potlucks, movie nights, and game gatherings. Help us cultivate a thriving online community where everyone feels welcome and supported. Contribute your ideas and talents to other community-building initiatives.

What you'll need:

A warm and friendly personality with a genuine desire to connect with others. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. The ability to work independently and collaboratively. Experience with social media is a plus!

Empower Healthy Choices!

Want to make a difference from the comfort of your own home? Join us as a Neighbor Advocate and help families access healthy, affordable food while building meaningful connections in our community. As a Neighbor Advocate, you'll empower neighbors to make informed food choices and play a vital role in increasing food security.

What you'll do:

Connect with neighbors by phone, building rapport and trust through active listening and empathy. Help neighbors create their monthly grocery orders, ensuring they stay within budget. Offer helpful cooking tips and recipe ideas. Share information about other valuable community resources. Coordinate grocery pickups with our Grocery Bringer volunteers.

What you'll need:

A compassionate heart and a desire to serve others. Excellent communication and active listening skills. Access to a phone, computer, and reliable internet. Basic computer skills for online ordering. A commitment to one 4-hour shift per week, at a set time, for at least 90 days.

What you'll gain:

The satisfaction of making a real difference in the lives of your neighbors. The opportunity to build meaningful relationships within your community. Ongoing training on topics like food justice and community building. The chance to be part of a supportive and caring team.

Become a Grocery Bringer and Nourish Our Neighborhood!

Want to make a real difference in your community? Join our team of Grocery Bringers and help neighbors access healthy food, while building connections that strengthen our community. As a Grocery Bringer, you'll play a vital role in increasing food security and offering neighbors the dignity of choice.

What you'll do:

Pick up pre-paid grocery orders and household supplies from local Krogers and other locations. Deliver groceries to neighbors' homes, offering a friendly and supportive presence. Help us identify any additional needs our neighbors may have. Share your delivery experiences with us through a simple feedback form.

What you'll need:

A compassionate heart and a desire to serve others. Reliable transportation with space for groceries. Access to a cell phone, computer, and internet for communication. Ability to lift and carry grocery bags and boxes (we can discuss accommodations if needed). A commitment to about two hours a week, for at least 90 days.

What you'll gain:

The satisfaction of making a tangible difference in your neighbors' lives. The opportunity to build meaningful connections within your community. Kroger Fuel Points for your volunteer hours. Ongoing training on topics like food justice and community building. The chance to be part of a supportive and caring team.

We welcome volunteers 18 and older. 16- and 17-year-olds are also welcome with parental permission and a delivery companion (who will also need a background check). All adult volunteers will complete a background check.
