Who We Are

Dancing Well: The Soldier Project brings the healing power of music, dance, and community to veterans and families coping with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and brain injury (BI).

What We Do

We use simple group dance led by a professional dance prompter to welcome and positively impact each participant. Dances and the venue are tailored to participant needs. Scientifically proven and published in a peer-reviewed journal to improve wellness, our community dance fights isolation, anxiety, and depression, increasing feelings of connectedness and improving outlook. Live music and friendly volunteers add to the fun! We serve families and loved ones too, and the positive effects continue on after the dancing ends. We are now developing a Leadership Training so that veteran communities across America can enjoy uplifting community dance!

We currently provide a mix of online and in-person programming, holding a weekly Dance Party on Facebook Live where people can dance along from home, plus our monthly in-person gatherings featuring live music, a dance leader, and refreshments. Between events we stay connected through phone calls and occasional visits.

As a nonprofit, we have many opportunities to make a difference through volunteering some of your time and talents. Some volunteers attend the dances and partner veterans, or sit and listen to them with a compassionate ear. Other volunteer tasks can be accomplished from your own home or in our centrally located office space.
