Who We Are

The Louisville Free Public Library, Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness, Metro United Way, Head Start, Healthy Start, HANDS, WIC, Humana, Baptist, and Play Cousins (the list is ever-growing!) have joined forces to provide early childhood essentials free of charge to families and caregivers. We supply diapers, wipes, formula, and other basic necessities needed to help babies and their families thrive. Saturday sessions offer a pre-event baby storytime.

What We Do

  • The Neighborhood Nest is a bi-monthly event held on the first Saturday and second Thursday of each month here at Shawnee.
  • We provide baby and early childhood essentials free of charge to attending families and caregivers.
  • On average we give away 2,000 diapers/event and
  • typically have 40+ families attend each session.
  • In addition to items, we offer support by way of agencies including: Metro United Way, Head Start, Healthy Start, HANDS, Healthy Babies Louisville, Humana, Baptist, and Norton.
  • At each event we have a lactation consultant on site to talk with nursing or plan-to-be nursing moms.
  • Baptist Health offers educational classes at each session, with topics like: car seat safety, safe sleep, etc.
