Adelante Hispanic Achievers (AHA) delivers out-of-school time programs for Latinx middle and high school students to improve academic achievement and develop skills and mindset to succeed in their chosen future. AHA’s top program is the Mentoring and Enrichment Program (M&E). Through weekday and Saturday programming, JCPS Latinx students participate in career mentoring, college-oriented workshops and college campus visits, experiential learning with community leaders, cultural field trips, community service and workshops in financial literacy, technology and entrepreneurship, martial arts and more. High levels of engagement, discussion, debate and reflection nurture intelligent and independent thinking. M&E is supplemented with a student ambassador leadership program, special events, and limited support for parents. Success is defined as Achievers becoming college/career ready through participation, goal setting and having agency to act on their goals. AHA strives for Achiever cohorts to exceed national norms among Hispanic young adults concerning graduation rates, ACT scores, post-secondary enrollment and completion and/or high-wage employment attainment. Since 2005, 890+ Achievers and families have been served. Since 2012, 11 senior cohorts graduated by completing M&E.
