Join us for the 3rd annual, The Greatest Give Back, on Thursday, June 9, 2022, hosted by the Muhammad Ali Center and Metro United Way!
Muhammad Ali would have celebrated his 80th birthday in January of 2022. To mark that milestone, volunteers at The Greatest Give Back will work in three shifts to create and assemble 800 diaper bundles, 800 laundry kits and 800 snack kits that will be distributed to local nonprofit agencies across our seven-county service area in Kentucky and Southern Indiana - giving the greatest gift of all – service to others.
Help us “TKO the need” by participating in The Greatest Comfort from 10 - 11:30 a.m. Volunteers will decorate bags* and assemble 800 Little Diaper Bundles that will go to combat diaper need in our community.
* No art skills are necessary to decorate the bags. You can trace designs or create your own.
Why is this project important?
Diaper need is the struggle to provide enough clean diapers to ensure that each diaper user can be changed out of wet or soiled diapers as often as necessary. An adequate supply of diapers is a basic need for all infants, as necessary for health and well-being as food and shelter.
- According to the National DiaperBank, the cost of diapers has risen more than 14% since January 2021.
- One in three families struggle to provide clean diapers for their baby.
This not only affects the health of the child but the income and productivity of the parents or caregivers. Most childcare facilities do not provide diapers. Nationally, 57% of parents said they missed an average of four days of school or work simply because they could not afford to supply diapers for their child.
We are working, UNITED, with you to ensure that children can grow up in a strong, vibrant, and healthy community where every person has the opportunity to thrive, not just survive.
